2004 Chuck Lee Chalk Mountain Prototype

Chalk Mountain Prototype Chuck Lee created the Chalk Mountain model out of his appreciation of the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Thus, the peghead inlay is a wizard, the ring inlay has figures representing the three journeying Hobbits with Galadriel watching over them, while the 12th fret inlay says (in Elvish) "Lee Banjo Company."

This banjo, s/n 041, is his prototype for this continuing model, and we sold it new. Now, selling used, it still looks like new, and is quite the collector's piece.p> With a hardshell case, this unusual piece can be yours for only $1999.

Chalk Mountain Prototype peghead The peghead is uniquely Chuck Lee's design, and has an elaborate wizard inlay in its ebony overlay.          Chalk Mountain Prototype tuners The tuners are black-buttoned 5-Star brand planetaries with ebony buttons.
Chalk Mountain Prototype back The neck is predominantly walnut.
Chalk Mountain Prototype fingerboard The ebony fingerboard has dot inlays, but with Chuck's special "Ring" and Elvish inlays as described above.
Chalk Mountain Prototype heel The fingerboard has Chuck's early "W" scoop (I called it his "Seagull" scoop).          Chalk Mountain Prototype stick The 12-inch maple pot has an ebony tone ring.
Chalk Mountain Prototype head It's set up with a Renaissance brand head, a Moon brand bridge, and a No-Knot tailpiece for a great clear tone.          Chalk Mountain Prototype neck The multi-piece neck has dyed wood laminates. Chuck has changed the number of laminates in his models over the years, so this particular banjo is truly unique.
