(photo) Click on this photo to see a larger version of this picture of just some of the ca. 40 Martin guitar models in stock. Please understand that guitars from C.F. Martin & Co. are ordered well in advance--typically 6-12 months before they arrive. This means that I never know what will be in stock or when. To assist you in knowing what's here, the following drop-down list shows only what's actually in stock, and it is updated within minutes of something's coming into or going out of stock:

C.F. Martin & Co.
Our current stock of new C.F. Martin & Co. Backpacker Instruments includes:

  • BackPacker Guitar. (photo)
This nifty little steel-stringed number lists for $299, let us ship it to you in its padded gig bag for $199 (you read that right: Shipping is included within the 48 contiguous States). Now In Stock.

We also stock these in left-handed models. No extra charge, and Now In Stock.

Look! Check this out: By simply adding a banjo-style spike (used to capo a banjo's 5th string), and replacing the Backpacker's 6th string with another 1st string, spiked at the 5th fret, you can have a nearly full scale practice "banjo" (tune it gGDGBD, and you have an extra low G to play with!). I'll be happy to set one up like this for you for $10 extra (including the spare "E" string). MP3 Sound File Here's what one sounds like!
  • Ukuleles
  • S-O Ukulele. (photo)
    C. F. Martin & Co. has long been a builder of high quality ukuleles.

They have only two in their line-up now, and one is the S-O. It is made with solid mahogany top, back and sides.

These instruments have rosewood fingerboards and bridges, and are not toys, but good sounding, easy playing instruments. They are strung with black nylon strings.

    Now In Stock.

  • C.F. Martin & Co.
Our current stock of new C.F. Martin & Co. "X" Series guitars includes:

  • LXM Little Martin. (photo)
This is a 3/4-sized instrument, ideal for travel or camping. The top, back, and sides are all made of HPL, a high pressure wood fiber laminate (much like Formica), and have a printed grain. The neck is made of Stratabond, a resin-impregnated wood laminate (you'll note that it comes with a neck pin installed).
The instrument has a 23-inch scale, and is a dream to play. Surprisingly, these things actually sound pretty good, too--listen to this MP3 Sound File sound file I made of one.

    Temporarily Out of Stock

  • LX BLACK Little Martin. (photo)
Just like the LXM, but it's, well, black.

    Out of Stock.

  • Also available with a solid spruce top, as the LX1. Temporarily Out of Stock
  • LX Realtree® "Little Martin" (photo)
This is a 3/4-sized instrument, really, really ideal for camping. The top, back, and sides are all made of HPL, a high pressure wood fiber laminate (much like Formica), and have a printed Realtree® camouflage pattern on them. Even the peghead has a Realtree® pattern on it.

The neck is made of Stratabond, a resin-impregnated wood laminate and has black tuners installed. You'll note it comes with a black neck pin installed, too, for your strap.
The instrument has a 23-inch scale, and is a dream to play. Surprisingly, these things actually sound pretty good, too--listen to this MP3 Sound File sound file I made of a LXM Little Martin (essentially the same guitar, but without the camouflage!).

List is $649, and it includes a very nice also Realtree®-camouflaged gig bag (I'm digging the blaze orange Martin logo!). This is clearly the perfect guitar to lose on your next woodsy outing! Now In Stock.

  • 000X1 (photo)
Here is another guitar from Martin featuring a laminated, high density wood fiber composite construction, but this one has a solid spruce top, and sounds quite good. There is no binding, so that solid top is beveled neatly into the sides. The "mahogany" back and sides are composite, with a printed mahogany grain. The fingerboard and bridge are made of Morado.

    Now In Stock.

  • DX1 (photo)
Here is another guitar from Martin featuring a laminated, high density wood fiber composite construction, but this one has a solid spruce top, and sounds quite good. There is no binding, so that solid top is beveled neatly into the sides. The "mahogany" back and sides make these look very much like D-Ms without dots inlaid on the fingerboard, which, as is the bridge, is made of Morado: Need a great beginner's guitar? These would be wonderful guitars to take to a festival. Temporarily Out of Stock

A 12-string model, the D12X1 is also available, but Out of Stock

  • DX1R
Here is another guitar from Martin featuring a laminated, high density wood fiber composite construction, but this one has a solid spruce top, and sounds quite good. There is no binding, so that solid top is beveled neatly into the sides. The "rosewood" back and sides make these look very much like D-Ms without dots inlaid on the fingerboard, which, as is the bridge, is made of micarta(!): Need a great beginner's guitar? These would be wonderful guitars to take to a festival.

  • C.F. Martin & Co.
Our current stock of new C.F. Martin & Co. "Road" and "1" Series guitars includes:

  • D-1
A re-introduced model in 2009, but this time it's all solid woods!
Click on thumbnail or link for more information
  •

  • OM-1
Martin's least expensive, all solid woods OM ("Orchestra Model"): 000-sized body, but with a wider fingerboard and a dreadnought scale.
Click on thumbnail or link for more information
  •

  • DM. (photo)
This solid spruce-topped guitar with mahogany back & sides is a great-sounding, easy playing bargain.

    Now In Stock.

  • D-R. (photo)
Similar to the D-M, above, his solid spruce-topped guitar has laminated rosewood back & sides. It has a brighter sound than mahogany, though, and is a great, inexpensive bluegrass guitar.

    Now In Stock.

  • C.F. Martin & Co.
Our current stock of new C.F. Martin & Co. "15" Series guitars includes:

  • 00-15. (photo)
This small-bodied, all-mahogany guitar was a new, 1999 model from Martin. They built a smaller, "0" size a while back (discontinued in 1961), and still make 000-18s and 000-28s. Owing to the success of the D-15, though, they are now offering this sweet little satin-finished guitar with its solid mahogany top, back and sides; and rosewood fingerboard and bridge.

The "15" series is, IMHO, the best bargain in the C.F. Martin line, being among their least expensive guitars, and the least expensive made of all solid woods. And, my first personal Martin was a 1946 00-18, so I'm really partial to this size; I love these guitars!

    Temporarily Out of Stock

  • 000-15. (photo)
Similar to the smaller 00 ("double-Oh" or "double-ought"), above, this small-bodied, all-mahogany guitar was a new, 1999 model from Martin. They built a smaller, "0" size a while back (discontinued in 1961), and still make 000-18s and 000-28s. • 000-15S. (photo)
The 000-15S is a longer bodied 000 size, with a 12-fret neck, a 1-3/4 inch nut, and a slotted headstock. That extra interior space makes for more volume and bass. A great guitar for Old-time!

    Now in Stock.

  • J-15. (photo)
This is another iteration of Martin's all-solid-mahogany guitars. Mahogany gives that rich, warm sound, and this instrument's jumbo size (0000 dimensions with a dreadnought depth body) offers great bluesy depth with clear, rich treble.

    Now in Stock.

  • D-15. (photo)
This guitar uses solid mahogany for its top, back and sides, giving a rich, warm sound, and being one of the the best bargains in the C.F. Martin line, in my opinion.

    Now In Stock.

  • D-15S. (photo)
As does the D-15, this guitar has a solid top, back and sides, but this is made of Sapele (a relative of mahogany), keeping the a rich, warm sound, but being somewhat more figured. That "S" means "slotted headstock", but this instrument is also different in that its body is two frets longer than that of a D-15, so the body and neck join at the 12th fret, rather than the 14th. Look here to compare a D-15 and a D-15S. That extra body volume makes a big, noticable difference in sound. These "S" bodies are richer and warmer, with a depth of bass that just won't quit: Great, great guitars for solo performers and singers!

    Now In Stock.

  • C.F. Martin & Co.
Our current stock of new C.F. Martin & Co. "16" Series guitars includes:

  • 000-16GT (photo).
The "GT" means "Gloss Top." This is a really nice smaller bodied model (Martin calls the 000-size an "Auditorium" size) made of all solid woods: spruce top and mahogany back and sides, with a pretty herringbone inlay around the sound hole. A good, warm sound from an easy-playing guitar.

    Temporarily Out of Stock

  • D-16GT. (photo)
The "GT" means "Gloss Top." This is a really nice model made of all solid woods: spruce top and mahogany back and sides, with a pretty herringbone inlay around the sound hole. A good, warm sound from an easy-playing guitar.

    Out of Stock

  • D-16RGT. (photo)
Similar to the D-16GT, above, the "GT" means "Gloss Top," but in this case, the "R" means rosewood, as in back and sides. This is a really nice bright model made of all solid woods: spruce top and those Indian rosewood back and sides, with a pretty herringbone inlay around the sound hole.

It has Martin's Micarta bridge and fingerboard with white binding. The pickguard looks very much like the old fashioned ones that Martin used years ago.
    Out of Stock.

  • D-16R. (photo)
This is a full-gloss version of the D-16 model; the "R" stands for rosewood back an sides..

It has a striped ebony fingerboard and a handsome abalone rosette. These are remarkably nice looking and good sounding all-solid-wood guitars.
    Now in Stock.

  • C.F. Martin & Co.
Our current stock of new C.F. Martin & Co. Standard Series guitars includes:

  • 000-18. (photo)
One of the all-time favorites, this smaller bodied guitar is much sought after by old-time musicians, finger-pickers, and singers. It's a well balanced, sweet-sounding instrument. Mahogany back & sides, rosewood fingerboard & bridge.

    Now In Stock.

  • D-18. (photo)
A workhorse of the Martin line. Mahogany back & sides, rosewood fingerboard & bridge.

    Now in Stock.

  • OM-21. (photo)
I've always like the -21 Series. With their simple front (rosewood fingerboard & bridge and -18 Series bindings) they are elegantly simple, yet they have rosewood backs and sides for that big, rosewood sound! Sure wish I'd bought a D-21 back in the 1960s... sigh

    Out of Stock.

  • 000-28. (photo)
The definitive Martin guitar. Rosewood back and sides, ebony fingerboard & bridge. This has the clarity of rosewood, with the smaller, more manageable "auditorium" size. A fingerpicker's delight!

    Now in Stock.

  • D-28. (photo)
The definitive Martin guitar. Rosewood back and sides, ebony fingerboard & bridge. Big sound: the Bluegrass standard.

    Now in Stock.

  • HD-28. (photo)
Martin's best selling instrument...and why not? With its classic herringbone trim, scalloped bracing, rosewood back & sides, and ebony fingerboard & bridge, these are great instruments. Full-sounding with the punch needed for bluegrass, too.

    Now in Stock.

  • OM-35. (photo)
This Auditorium-size instrument has a 3-piece, Indian rosewood back and a bound fingerboard. Being an OM, it has scalloped top braces for a fuller, louder sound than the Standard 000-sized guitars. In addition, the OMs have a dreadnought's 25.4-inch scale, vs 24.9-inch for a Standard 000, and 1-3/4 inch width at the nut, instead of the Standard's 1-11/16.

    Now In Stock.

  • D-35. (photo)
This dreadnought has a 3-piece, Indian rosewood back and a bound fingerboard. Unlike all the other Martin dreadnoughts, the D-35 has lighter, 1/4-inch bracing (the others have 5/16th-inch bracing), giving really clear highs and a very responsive bass.

    Now In Stock.

  • HD-35. (photo)
As does the standard D-35, this dreadnought has a 3-piece, Indian rosewood back and a bound fingerboard. Unlike all the other Martin dreadnoughts, the D-35s have lighter, 1/4-inch bracing (the others have 5/16th-inch bracing), giving really clear highs, a very responsive bass and mid-range tones you have to hear to believe; the HD-35 has even lighter bracing, as it has been scalloped: What a sound! The HD-35 not only has herringbone trim, but special marquetry separating the 3-pieces of the back.

    Now in Stock.

  • M-36. (photo)
Similar to a -35 guitar, this jumbo has a 3-piece, Indian rosewood back and a bound fingerboard. Unlike the Standard Series -35s, this guitar has vintage toner and its forward-shifted, scalloped bracing is 5/16 inch, not 1/4 inch. Big, clear sound.

    Now in Stock.

  • D-42. (photo)
This is one of my favorite Martin models. It has abalone inlay around the top and soundhole, but has what is, IMHO, very tasteful snowflake neck inlays in its ebony fingerboard and on its ebony bridge. With the large, "C.F. Martin" abalone inlay in the headstock and gold-plated "butter-bean" tuners, and very handsome rosewood back and sides this is a beautiful instrument. Just to add to its charm, unlike the other 40-series Martins, this model has forward shifted, scalloped bracing to give it that big pre-war Martin sound, too.

Adding to its charm and attention to detail are the multiple stripe ivoroid binding around the body, as well as on the fingerboard and headstock, the very handsome marquetry back-strip (note you can see the grain in the ivoroid heelcap in this shot), and the old-fashioned, beveled edge, under-finish pickguard.
Out of Stock. (Though we do have a like-new, bargain priced 2003 D-42K in stock!

  • C.F. Martin & Co.
Our current stock of new C.F. Martin & Co. Vintage, Limited, and Special Series guitars includes:

  • 00-18V. (photo)
Wow! What a big sound from a small guitar! I love the 00 size--it's the most aesthetically appealing to me...and, my very first Martin was a 1946 00-18. This one brings it all back. What tone and balance. *sigh* (I like these well enough that I bought one for my personal use.)

As do all the Vintage guitars in the Martin line, this has aging toner lacquer; vintage-style, "V" neck; "butterbean" tuners, abalone position dots, "through" saddle; and tortoise-shell-colored binding and pick guard. Its forward shifted, scalloped bracing is great; this is a warm, balanced guitar with more bass than a small body has any right to produce and crystal clear trebles..

    Now in Stock.

  • D-18V. (photo) As do all the Vintage guitars in the Martin line, this has aging toner lacquer; vintage-style, "V" neck; "butterbean" tuners, abalone position dots, "through" saddle; and tortoise-shell-colored binding and pick guard. The pre-war sound of its forward shifted, scalloped bracing is great. A warm, full-sounding guitar.

    Now in Stock.

  • D-18VS. (photo) As do all the Vintage guitars in the Martin line, this has aging toner lacquer; vintage-style, "V" neck; "butterbean" tuners (Waverlys on the slot-head models), abalone position dots, "through" saddle; and tortoise-shell-colored binding and pick guard. This one, though, has the extended "Ditson" body (resulting in a 12-fret neck and a boomier, richer sound) and a slotted headstock. The pre-war sound of its forward shifted, scalloped bracing is great. A warm, full-sounding guitar--I bought the first one I had for myself, I thought so highly of it!

    Now in Stock

  • 000-28VS. (photo) What a wonderful little guitar! This has the extended body, resulting in a 12-fret neck and the classic style slotted headstock with Waverly tuners. The abalone diamond and squares inlay is limited to frets 5, 7, and 9 in the ebony fingerboard. There is no pickguard, and the instrument has the old-fashioned pyramid bridge with a long saddle. It has a 25.4-inch scale, and the fingerboard is 1-13/16 inch at the nut.

As do all the -28 models, this has back and sides of rosewood, and the top is gorgeous spruce.

    Out of Stock

  • 000-28EC Eric Clapton signature model. (photo)

Being a -28, this guitar has rosewood back and sides, and ebony fingerboard and bridge. But, beyond that, this is a "super-000" model combining several features of Martin's 000-28 and OM-28 guitars with the Vintage Series.

The top bracing is scalloped, as is that of an OM, yet this instrument has the 24.9-inch scale of a standard 000. Also similar to an OM, the fingerboard is 1-3/4" at the nut (as opposed to a 000's 1-11/16" nut).

Other differences include the 000-28EC's ivoroid body binding (vs. a Standard's white Boltaron). The 000-28EC has herringbone trim on the top, as well as the Vintage Series's other usual features.

With that short scale and wide fingerboard, these are really great playing guitars, and the scalloped bracing sure makes them sound great, too! Plus, of course, that Eric Clapton fellow has signed the label...

    Now in Stock.

  • HD-28V.(photo)
As do all the Vintage guitars in the Martin line, this has aging toner lacquer; vintage-style, "V" neck; "butterbean" tuners, abalone position dots in the 14-fret neck; "through" saddle; and tortoise-shell-colored binding and pick guard. Add to this a pre-war sound owing to its forward shifted, scalloped bracing, and you've got a guitar that won't quit!

These are invariably wonderful instruments, and don't stay in the store very long.

This is a ZEPP Country Music Pick: I feel that the HD-28V is consistently the best sounding guitar Martin makes without cosmetic additions. People tend to buy these on impulse: They'll play an HD-28V and say "I've just gotta have this." Sure, they're expensive, but you can pay a whole lot more for a Martin and not get a better sounding instrument--although those fancy Martins sure are masterpieces of quality and beauty.

    Now in Stock.

  • OM-28V.(photo)
As do all the Vintage guitars in the Martin line, this has aging toner lacquer; vintage-style, "V" neck; "butterbean" tuners, abalone position dots in the 14-fret neck; "through" saddle; and tortoise-shell-colored binding and pick guard. Add to this a pre-war sound owing to its forward shifted, scalloped bracing, and you've got a guitar that won't quit!

While OM ("Orchestra Model") guitars have the same body dimensions as a 000 model, the OMs in the Standard and Vintage series have the 25.4 inch scale length of a dreadnought, as opposed to 24.9 for a 000). Similarly, the 000 guitars have fingerboards that are 1-11/16 inces at the nut, while OMs are 1-3/4 inch.

With its scalloped bracing, this is a dynamite small-bodied instrument. They have the power of a dreadnought, but the clarity of a 000. Amazing!

  • C.F. Martin & Co.
Our current stock of new C.F. Martin & Co. Authentic, Golden Era, and Marquis Series guitars includes:

  • 000-18GE. (Golden Era) (photo)
This is a "super-Vintage" smaller-bodied model, having lots of the "old" features of the 1930s!

As do the Vintage Series guitars in the Martin line, this has scalloped bracing, this being 1/4" thick rather that the 5/16" used on dreadnoughts. aging toner lacquer; vintage-style, "V" neck ; abalone position dots in an ebony fingerboard; "butterbean" tuners (by Gotoh on this model); and "through" saddle and an old-fashioned-looking "shell" pickguard.

Unlike the "V" series, the GE's fingerboard is 1-3/4 inches at the nut, it has linen side strips, an Adirondak spruce top, and a fossilized ivory nut and saddle.

    Out of Stock

  • D-18GE. (Golden Era) (photo)
This is a Special Edition, "super-Vintage" model, having even more of the "old" features than the already marvelous D-18Vs!

As do the Vintage Series guitars in the Martin line, this has forward shifted, scalloped bracing, aging toner lacquer; vintage-style, "V" neck ; "butterbean" tuners (by Waverly), abalone position dots, and "through" saddle and an old-fashioned-looking "shell" pickguard.

Unlike the "V" series, the GE's fingerboard is 1-3/4 inches at the nut, it has linen side strips, and an Adirondak spruce top, and a fossilized ivory nut and saddle.

  • D-28 Marquis. (photo)
Another in Martin's line of this-is-how-we-used-to-do-it guitars, the Marquis has an Adirondak (red) spruce top, and a fossilized ivory nut and saddle.

In addition to such vintage features as forward shifted, scalloped bracing, Gotoh butterbean tuners, modified V neck, and ivoroid binding, it has the old style wood fiber inlays for the rosette.

Unlike the "V" series, the Marquis's fingerboard is 1-3/4 inches at the nut, it has linen side strips, and an Adirondak spruce top, and a fossilized ivory nut and saddle.

  • FeLiX III Limited Edition. (photo)
This is (obviously) the third in a fanciful series of 3/4 sized guitars that Martin has been building, each having a different Felix the Cat motif..

The top of this one is a kinda tie-dye affair, and the Felix theme is carried onto the headstock. That peghead has "smoked chrome" tuners (note the Stratabond neck construction, as well--it also has a matching "smoked chrome" strap button installed at the factory). The back and sides are a simple flat black High Pressure Laminate.

The fingerboard and bridge are made of Micarta, and the neck is a Stratabond laminate, so these instruments are dang nigh indestructible.

Part of a series! Collect all three (though I never did get any FeLiX IIs!) Comes with the "FeLiX" gig bag, as shown.

    Sold Out.

  • Hawaiian X Limited Edition. (photo)
This cool X guitar has a printed Hawaiian theme on its front, featuring the CEO, Chris Martin, IV seated at a luau.

The entire body of the X Series guitars are made of a High Pressure Laminate, similar to the Formica brand product, and are amazingly durable and good sounding. On this model, the back and sides have a printed grain of koa wood (and why not? It is an Hwaiian motif, after all).

The fingerboard and bridge are made of Micarta, and the neck is a Stratabond laminate, so these instruments are dang nigh indestructible.

Only 500 of these were made--the one we have in stock is number 445, and it's signed by Chris Martin himself, of course!

    Now In Stock.

  • SWDGT. Martin's "Sustainable Wood" series (photo)
In Martin's efforts to preserve dwindling supplies of tonewoods, they have embarked on a series of instruments made of wood certified to be from managed forests, i.e., those planted specifically for harvest. Hence, SW="Sustainable Wood, D=Dreadnought, and GT="Gloss Top", the instrument having a catalyzed polymer, satin finish elsewhere.

This solid Sitka spruce-topped (reclaimed from the pulp wood industry, it says) guitar has its back, sides, and even the neck of very handsome cherry. The fingerboard and bridge are of a Mexican hardwood called Katalox, which has the color of rosewood, but a smooth, hard surface much like that of ebony.

The binding is imitation shell, as is the heelcap and the center stripe down the back. The instrument has gold-plated tuners, and even a "shell" overlay on the headstock.

Very nice guitar, really. It looks good, plays great, and has a surprisingly nice sound.

  • SWOMGT. Martin's "Sustainable Wood" series (photo)
Just like the SWDGT (dreadnought version) this OM is part of Martin's efforts to preserve dwindling supplies of tonewoods, they are using wood from managed forests, i.e., those planted specifically for harvest. Hence, SW="SustainableWood, OM=Orchestra Model, and GT="Gloss Top", the instrument having a catalyzed polymer, satin finish elsewhere.

  • SW00-DB Machiche Limited Edition (125 to be made) (photo)
This Sustainable Wood model is a 00 body size, but with the body depth of a dreadnought. This was a design originally introduced as part of Martin's Women and Music program, but there is no longer any reference to that provenance on the guitar.

This full gloss, solid Sitka spruce-topped ("rescued", presumably from the pulp-wood industry) has some bear claw. The sound hole has a unique, black bound cherry rosette with machiche and maple inlays; the top binding is a rope design with black/maple/black fiber inlay on the top--the sides and back binding are ivoroid. Its katalox bridge has maple bridge pins with copper dots

The back and sides are made of solid machiche, which is a managed hardwood that looks similar to a wild-grained mahogany, with a black/maple/black fiber dividing strip.

The cherry neck has a 1-11/16th inch katalox fingerboard (the same wood as the bridge) with cherry and maple dots inlaid; it also has copper side marker dots.

The peghead is overlain with machiche, and the Martin logo in inlaid with maple. The Gotoh-made tuners have an "antique bright copper" finish, matching the finish on the factory-installed strap button.

OK--it looks really neat, but how does it sound? Really good, that's how! That deep body really emphasizes its bass, while the smaller profile of the 00-sized top with its scalloped, hybrid X-bracing makes for really clear treble.
Sold Out. Look! But, we have a like-new used one in stock!
